‘Siddu +2, 1st attempt’ has a neat story that describes the pitiable lives of students pressurized by their family members on their education. But the heart and soul of this concept remains unexplored throughout the show.

The master of screenplay, K.Bhagyaraj, has churned out some resplendent movies in the past.

His yesteryear showpieces are still adored as evergreen entertainers. But his latest offering, Siddu +2, lacks the usual charm that is associated with the director’s movies.

The film opens with Pavithra (Chandini) on a cut and run from her house after failing in +2 examinations. On arriving in Chennai, she is found flummoxed, which raises doubt among cops in railway station. Soon arrives the savior Siddu (Shanthanoo), a charming guy rescuing her out of troubled waters. Later he introduces himself with a commonness that prevails between them. He has flunked terribly in his examinations and is on the way to commit suicide. Mutually exclusive in their nature, the two teens start sharing a bond that later blossoms into love. Meanwhile, one of them succeeds in the exam and events that unfold from then on, have been told using some of the latest techniques in film making combined with adult jokes in Siddu Plus 2.

Shanthanoo sticks to the core of his character exhibiting a free-and-easy style performance. The young lad has given his best in action sequences and his dancing skills need special mention. Chandini looks perfect as a panicked innocent girl. K. Bhagyaraj seems to have stressed himself a lot over penning dialogues banking on youth groups. The second half of the film sags on and off.

A sulfurous encounter specialist getting hold of a normal guy and the challenge he poses is not warranted. The bomb blast operation in a fun fare is well dramatized as it imparts some pace in screenplay. The actor performing the role of Chandini’s cousin tries demoing his skills. But his characterization is bleak.

‘Poove Poove’ crooned by Yuvan Shankar Raja and Chinmayee is the pick of the album. The remix number ‘Aalaana thamarai’ passes muster which could find takers in certain sections of the audience. Raasamathy’s cinematography is praise worthy. Choreographers Bobby, Shobi and Prasanna have swayed with their energetic steps.
