Singam Puli has created some sensation, as Jeeva has done a dual role in the film. It also introduces a new director Sai Ramani and hence there has been some expectation for the film. After seeing the film one would give thumps us for Jeeva for handling the dual role deftly. The debutant director however has failed to impress. He has failed to come up with a convincing and interesting script.
Siva (Jeeva), a 12th standard dropout who takes to selling fish as a profession. His love interest is Swetha (Divya). His twin brother Ashok (Jeeva) is a lawyer and the duo live with their sister and parents.
Ashok is a playboy. He successfully pretends to be a good guy and manages to fool people easily, including his parents. His friend Buji Babu (Santhanam) aids him to get girls. He gets into trouble when he goes a bit too far with Gayathri (Soundarya), who dies because of his cheating ways.
At the home front, no one understands Siva’s straigt forwardness. His genuine emotions are mistaken. But Siva doesn’t care about this image and goes about doing whatever he feels right. He files a complaint against his brother when he comes to know that he is the reason behind the death of Gayathri.
Ashok uses his charm and sophistication to successfully counter Siva. But Siva’s integrity starts paying him dividends and this makes Ashok showing his real self to his brother. Ashok sheds his soft pretentions. He hires a gang to get rid of his brother.
How Siva tackles the goons and exposes Ashok’s real colour form the rest of the story.
Debutant Sai Ramani’s story, revolving around the fight between twins who represent good and bad, is not a new one. His presentation too is quite clichéd. The director makes it a tiring experience with the length (nearly three hours) that sans novelty and interest. The second half is relatively watchable with some twists.
Jeeva has proved his mettle in dual role. His charm, anger, and comical sence work as a major plus points of the film. His scenes with Santhanam provide some entertainment. Too many double meaning dialogues could have been avoided.
Divya Spandana and Soundarya do their jobs reasonably well. Santhanam does make us laugh but he has gone overboard in many scenes.
Mani Sharma’s music is nothing special.
Singam Puli does entertain in parts but the too much length, unwarranted sub plots (involving Siva’s sister’s marriage and the hurdles in Siva’s love), and predictable screenplay mar the overall impact of the film.
Verdict- Below Average
